Local models

Use the local model path when the project data does not live in Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud, ACC) or when your team needs to work from files stored locally.

Supported file types include:

  • RVT
  • NWD
  • IFC
  • ZIP packages for linked model sets

Local uploads depend on Autodesk Platform Services (APS). Before your team can upload models reliably, make sure the Autodesk account and app you use with Frame are inside an APS Developer Hub.

If your team already has a hub, ask a hub admin to invite you and confirm that the app owner has moved the required app into that hub. If not, create one:

  1. Sign in to manage.autodesk.com.
  2. Open Products and Services and then Hubs.
  3. Click Create Hub.
  4. Select APS developer hub as the product.
  5. Enter the hub name and any description your team wants to use.
  6. Click Create & Activate.
  7. Refresh the page and open the new hub in the APS developer portal.
  8. Invite the developers and admins who need access.
  9. Move existing APS applications from My Applications into the hub.

Keep these requirements in mind:

  • the Autodesk team that creates the hub must have an active APS offering
  • only the app owner can move an application into a hub
  • if your app stays outside a hub, APS calls can fail until it is moved

For Autodesk’s full migration guide and troubleshooting details, see How to Create a Developer Hub and Migrate Your Applications.

  1. Open the Frame dashboard.
  2. Add a model from your device.
  3. Choose the local file or package.
  4. Wait for processing to finish.
  5. Open the model in the viewer or use it in reporting workflows once the status reaches Ready.

After translation, the model becomes available to the same downstream workflows used by Autodesk Forma-connected models:

  • viewer review
  • Power BI reporting
  • Excel Add-In exports
  • Frame AI workflows
